VISUAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGY 1

Requirements: Grades 11-12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program

Visual Imaging Technology explores the print and design industry through drawing, typography, graphic design, illustration, and animation. Learn marketable skills in a studio setting that includes a Mac lab running the Adobe Creative Suite, and a print lab that provides hands-on workspace to generate products like t-shirts, brochures, posters, stickers and more. An emphasis is placed on the design process, concept development, and critique to help students build a portfolio for a career in commercial arts. Students build on creativity skills and learn how to produce original designs using typography, photography, and graphics. Articulation is available with Washtenaw Community College.

VISUAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGY 2

Requirements: Grade 12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program, Successful Completion of Visual Imaging Technology 1

Throughout the year, students will work independently on client design, personal design, and printing projects, taking on leadership roles within the class. In Trimester 1, they will create eight conceptual pieces by experimenting weekly with various subjects, mediums, elements, principles, and compositional techniques, each accompanied by a written statement of purpose. In Trimester 2, students will delve into two chosen focus areas for four weeks each, producing a collection of work with a final output, along with written statements for each area. Finally, Trimester 3 culminates in a polished portfolio project that showcases their best work for job applications, college admissions, and scholarship opportunities.
