EXERCISE SCIENCE & SPORTS MEDICINE 1 at Saline High School & Chelsea High School

Requirements: Grades 11-12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program

This CTE program introduces students to various aspects of health-related careers such a Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), Athletic Trainer, EMT, First Responder, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, as well as many others. To be successful, students in the Exercise Science program need to be present with exemplary attendance and engage with content, curriculum, and educational applications both inside and outside of the classroom/lab. Students must have a strong desire to learn about health and the human body, anatomy and physiology, injury evaluation and diagnosis, and preventative measures related to health as well as have a strong skill set pertaining to Science, English, and communication. Certifications from American Heart Association First Aid & CPR will be offered.  

EXERCISE SCIENCE & SPORTS MEDICINE 2 at Saline High School

Requirements: Grade 12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program, Successful Completion of Exercise Science & Sports Medicine 1 

Exercise Science & Sports Medicine 2 builds on the foundational knowledge and skills developed in Exercise Science & Sports Medicine 1, providing students with an advanced understanding of injury evaluation and management. In this course, students will expand their expertise by learning to assess general medical conditions and will be introduced to therapeutic modalities used in treatment and rehabilitation. Additionally, students will explore the psychosocial aspects of the injury recovery process, gaining insight into the mental and emotional challenges athletes face during rehabilitation. Students will conduct research identifying common medical problems, helping to identify gaps in healthcare and improvements that can be made. Throughout the year, students will have hands-on opportunities to apply their learning in real-world scenarios, working directly with patients under the supervision of certified professionals. During the third trimester, students will complete a clinical rotation during the course. They will work alongside healthcare industry professionals, gaining valuable experience and insights into careers in sports medicine and other healthcare fields.
