Computer Servicing 1: Hardware and Operating Systems
Requirements: Grades 11-12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program
This comprehensive course integrates advanced electrical and electronics systems training with foundational computer hardware and operating system competencies. Students will acquire the skills needed to excel in both the electrical/electronics and computer technology fields, preparing for industry-recognized certifications in Electrical/Electronics Equipment Installation and Repair. Key electrical competencies include residential and commercial wiring, industrial motor controls, and manufacturing automation. Students will design, program, and troubleshoot industrial systems, including PLCs and HMIs while mastering core principles of AC/DC circuits, semiconductors, and digital circuits through hands-on assembly, testing, and measurement. Emphasis is placed on safety standards, blueprint interpretation, and adherence to the National Electrical Code and Michigan standards. The course also prepares students to build, repair, and troubleshoot PCs, networks, and electronic devices using state-of-the-art simulators and hands-on activities. Topics covered include hardware, operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac), memory and storage, networking, wireless systems, peripherals, and mobile devices. Additionally, students will explore DC circuitry, soldering, test equipment, and workplace safety. Traditional workplace learning and leadership skills are integrated throughout the curriculum, offering articulation opportunities with Washtenaw Community College. This dynamic program ensures students are equipped to meet the demands of both the electrical and computer technology industries. Articulation is available with Washtenaw Community College.
Computer Servicing 2: Networking
Requirements: Grades 11-12 only, Application Required, Full Year Program. Successful Completion of Computer Servicing 1: Hardware and Operating Systems
The Computer Systems Technology 2: Networking course is designed for students who are going to enter the information technology field. Students in this course expand their troubleshooting skills. Through state-of-the-art simulators and hands-on activities, this course prepares students for the TestOut Network Pro certification exam and CompTIA's Network+ certification exam. Students gain the knowledge and skills they need to install, configure, and maintain a network for businesses and organizations. Course concepts include network protocols, cables and devices, IP and server configuration, routing, security and firewalls, and network storage. Additionally, the fundamentals of electronics will continue to be explored, these may include DC circuitry, integrated circuits, wiring, soldering, test equipment, and safety. Traditional workplace learning and leadership skills are included in this curriculum. Articulation is available with Washtenaw Community College.
