Students are expected to attend school all day, every day, from 7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Up to four absences (excused for medical, bereavement, college visit, or court) are permitted each marking period. Chronic truancy (more than 5 absences during a marking period) will result in a student being dropped for the remainder of the marking period.

Parking Permit

Students who choose to self-transport may apply for a parking permit in the New Saline Alternative Office or at Liberty School’s District Office prior to the start of school. The fee is $25.00; scholarships are available. Students must present a valid driver's license and a vehicle registration form at the time of purchase.

Graduation Requirements

Total credits required for graduation from Saline Alternative High School: Class of 2026-2029 = 27 Total Credits

Schedule matrix, information is included in text below

  • English - 4 credits - English 9, English 10, English 11: (Tech Writing or AP Language and Composition) and one additional English credit
  • Social Studies - 3 credits - World History, U.S. History, AP U.S. History, Economics and Government OR AP Government
  • Mathematics - 4 credits - Algebra 1, Geometry (or Geometry Fundamentals), Algebra 2 (or Algebra 2 Fundamentals) One math course must be taken during the student's senior year--may include select courses outside of the Mathematics Department as approved by the State of Michigan and the Saline Area School District
  • Science - 3 credits - Biology or Ag Biology or AP Biology, and either a credit in Chemistry, Physics, Fundamentals of Chemistry and Fundamentals of Physics or Anatomy (HBS) and 1.0 additional science credit
  • Health - 1/2 credit
  • Physical Education - 1 credit
  • Technology  - 1 credit
  • Visual, Performing or Applied Arts - 1 credit
  • World Language - 2 credits 
  • Starting with the Class of 2027- Composition- 1/2 credit
  • Starting with the Class of 2028 - Personal Finance - 1/2 credit

**Each graduating student must complete the Michigan Merit Examination testing battery (which includes the SAT, the ACT Work KeysTest, and all required Michigan Merit Components) with a reasonable best effort.

Student Classification

Students are classified by grade level according to credits.  Classifications are as follows:

  • Freshman - less than 6 credits
  • Sophomore - 6 - 12 credits - Incoming Sophomore must have 6 credits
  • Junior -12.5 - 19 credits - Incoming Junior must have 12.5 credits
  • Senior - 19.5 or more credits - Incoming Senior must have 19.5 credits
